BROOKS ROAD COMPETITION PLAISTOW, LONDON
E13
The incorporation of an independent structural addition to an existing
high rise block offers the opportunity to increase the accommodation
on site without undermining the stability of the existing structure.
The new structure is visually integrated into a unified form with the
existing, by an outer frame wrapping like a helicon; an instrument of
spiral form carried around the body. Being more than just a re-cladding
exercise, the intervention provides a totally new form and identity
for the tower and its surrounding environment.
The outer skin may be varied in its make up in
response to its orientation, becoming lighter & louvered on the
southern elevation and more enclosed and insulating towards the North.
A double height space is introduced into the
ground floor entrance lobby on the Northern elevation together with
community facilities on the Southern elevation.
