WANDSWORTH,
contd.,
A curved roof has been employed to aid the transition in height and
mass as the building decreases in size towards the smaller scale subsidiary
streets to the rear. The lower units will enter individually from this
rear approach whilst the upper units enter from the main street via
an access bridge shared by each pair of units. This solution maximizes
the accommodation achievable on the site, eliminates the need for communal
hallways or lifts and provides an independent street entry for all apartments.
The plan sits within the footprint of the former building and thereby
maintains the established relationship with neighbouring buildings.
